Tipsy road are a Swiss rock band that formed in 2007. In 2009 they released their debut EP, Breakin’ the line. Four years later, in 2013 they have finally released their debut album – Somewhere alive.
Despite the “somewhere alive” title, it’s not a live album, but is actually their first studio album. It’s a mix of hard rock and NWOBHM and sounds great. The vocals are very good, there’s some nice guitar work and good tunes, and it all comes together very well.
Brief comments on a few tracks…
“Naked” is a great song. It’s got quite a nice Iron Maiden feel to it – the vocals particularly, but without sounding like a copy of Maiden.
The weakest track here by far is the title track “Somewhere alive” which is spoken lyrics and quiet background music. It’s more an intro to the next track than a track in it’s own right. It just feels wrong to have this in the middle of the album, whereas if they’d chosen it as the start of the album it might have worked better.
“Eyes” is a great track with a nice guitar solo included.
“Wraith” starts off slowly with the vocals soft and low before the music ramps up in pace and power and Davide De Vita really lets loose with his vocals at full power. A great song.
A very good album that’s well worth a listen.
