Defining Lines – Interview

Highly-rated Brit riff slingers DEFINING LINES (www.facebook.com/pg/DefiningLinesBand/) continue their climb with the release of their new single and video, Fall Apart – https://youtu.be/lYoSPX9wh_A . With a sound that takes from Bullet For My Valentine and Architects to Killswitch Engage and The Blackout, we caught up with the likes and asked them to introduce themselves:

What is the full band line-up, who sings and who plays which instrument?

Vocals: Michael Aveyard

Lead Guitar: Arron Jagger

Rhythm Guitar: Micky T

Bass / Vocals: Riki Kean

Drums: Timmay Arnold

How and when did the band form?

All of us are from West Yorkshire expect Micky T who was originally a southerner but has converted into a Yorkshire man. Our hometowns are Bradford, Leeds and Huddersfield.

When and how did the band really start gelling and solidifying?

Formed in early 2018 and just hit it off after organising a jamming session. We’ve been practicing, near enough, every single week. We had 4 or five songs written and decided that they were terrible and started from scratch. Our debut EP “As Our Souls Depart” was then written.

Who are your musical influences?

We all have very different tastes in music, from rock and metal to hip hop and pop we pretty much listen to it all. Bands such as: BFMV, Kill Switch, The Blackout, As I Lay Dying, Architects etc..

How far back does your history with each other (the band members) extend? Are you friends from

school or any family relations?

Michael and Riki have known each other for years through mutual friends. The original guitarist Andy is roommates with Arron and introduced him into the band. Micky also came along after Andy decided to leave DL. We are all like brothers now..

Where have you played or toured? Please name all countries / regions and recognised bands that you have played with.

We have only played in the UK so far but been lucky enough to play shows in the following cities: Leeds, London, Manchester, Hull, Leicester, Southampton, Huddersfield, Chesterfield and Newcastle.

We’ve played with a whole host of bands from different genres such as: Ashes To Angels, Confessions Of A Traitor, Values, Dayshifter, Arkdown and tonnes more.

In your opinion, how is your band different from all the other bands out there?

We don’t sound like anyone out there at the moment currently. We are constantly told we have an old school sound; we mix this with synths and modern elements of metalcore. We have a very energetic live show and we do our best to get the audience to leave the venue remembering who we are!

If a deaf person were to ask you to describe the sound of your music, how would you describe it?

Massive melodic hooks and crushing breakdowns and lots of energy.
