Recently released via Joe Bonnamassa’s Journeyman Records, the four track One Of A Kind EP is another strong addition to the recorded output from Robert Jon & The Wreck available on all digital platforms . Formed in Orange County, Southern California in 2011 this highly charged quartet of songs open with the sultry Southern rock tinged ‘Pain No More’ that also packs knockout punches from the off, courtesy of a slamming main riff. Trademark honey soaked lead vocals from Robert Jon Burrison, laid back keyboard flourishes send it soaring to greater heights towards a full on rock out midesction of slinky slide guitar.
A soul searching lead vocal is heartbreakingly potent throughout ‘Who Can You Love’ as this uptempo ballad flows along on dreamy grooves punctuated by jarring guitar lines and nirvana is reached by stadium filling choruses to make it not just a song but a thing of beauty, courtesy of the outro guitar solo from Henry James SchneekLuth.
‘One Of A Kind’ is a rabble rousing party starter finisher as this full on rock and roller romps and stomps bullishly on razor wire sharp guitar work, a lung busting lead vocal, ending on a snare driven outro flourish.
The EP ends far too soon as closing track ‘Come At Me’ finishes One Of A Kind as it started on feelgood vibes to bring out some early summer sunshine from barroom boogie bluster. Robert pushes his voice to the max to make himself heard over the cacophony of a headbanging main riff and a tour de force rock solid rhythm section that’s a force of nature!
