Texan blues singer/guitarist Lance Lopez has just released his new solo album, Tell the truth. As well as his 6 solo albums, he’s also performed lead vocals/guitarist as part of Supersonic Blues Machine (and if you haven’t heard their album I strongly recommend you listen to it).
This isn’t a laid-back kind of blues album, this is much more powerful – more blues-rock than anything else. It’s really good guitar driven music, with fantastic gravelly vocals too. The songs are largely autobiographical and listening to them you certainly get the impression that Lance Lopez enjoys life. The guitar playing is excellent throughout including some great slide-guitar playing. The guitar riffs drive the songs forward and the solos are nicely done – always feeling like an essential part of the song
Check out “Down to one bar” from the album…
As well as his own songs there’s a cover of John Lee Hooker’s “Mr Lucky” which sounds fantastic.
Another video from the album is “Cash my check”….
With it’s strong tunes, great guitar playing and great vocals, this really is an impressive album. Between this and Supersonic Blues Machine, Lance Lopez is definitely not only boosting his profile and fanbase, but demonstrating that he’s a blues musician who deserves a far higher profile. A fantastic album – highly recommended.
