Alfonzetti – Here Comes the Night

Alfonzetti is the surname of Matti Alfonzetti who been has in several bands including Jagged Edge, Heavy Waters, and Skintrade.
So is this pretty much a solo album ?
Well, no, not really, this release is very much the work of two men – Matti Alfonzetti and Daniel Flores, and between them they play all the instruments apart from some lead guitar parts, these duties fall to Marcus Jidell from Evergrey and Emil Fredholm.
Alfonzetti wrote and produced all the tracks, and Flores mixed and co-produced them.
The problem here, is like most solo albums, you cant see the wood through the trees, the song are good, the singing is great, it just lacks an overall punch. The last song “ I will never let you fall” is easily the best track on here, Alfonzetti’s voice drives this track along, and some heavy guitar riffs make this a kicker, however you do have to wade through some pretty bland material to get to this point.

There are some nice guitar solos, which do try and help lift the tempo, to give the record some life, but even these fail to make the album great.

This is an ok melodic rock album, but not a great one. The problem is that when one/two people write/produce the songs they get stuck in a bubble, and are not open to constructive criticism from other band members.
The songs are all nice enough, they just dont stick in your memory, What this record needs is more of “I will never let you fall” or more input from either of the guest guitarist, then I feel this album would have been far better.
