Right from the off, Acid Claw got my attention as first impression reminded me of Spazztic Blurr, anyone remember them?
Anyway I digress as the multi genre band from Reading, South Of England based noisy bastards Acid Claw have just released an over the top, six track EP titled Crimes Against Imagination which will leave you breathless, such is the power they fire out these tracks.
EP opener ‘Rocket Jelly Sandwich’ sounds strangely enough like 70’s Glam Rock band, The Rubettes at times. A Brass section intro blasts away , heading off into a snare drum battery, demented vocals and a surefire pit opener, accelerating into proto thrash, indie stabs and unhinged madness.
‘Mild Peril In Mexico City’ has an almost heavenly vocal that’s the calm before storm crusher. Razor sharp riffs try to upstage the midway instrumental onslaught of earsplitting drum devastation.
‘CPR’ (Hell Of A Drug)’ is a funky junkie earworm grooved breath of fresh air, bringing summer vibes out early from a song that needs blasting out with all your windows down.
‘Gone Fishing’ has a fairground like intro, and that vibe remains throughout alongside rock and roll damnation, lighting the blue touch paper for a mauling metal meltdown.
‘An Ode To Whibsy Pudding’ is a mad as a hatter party starting and finisher that should really be in a straitjacket. The lyrics are mind boggling, adding fire and brimstone to an already mad racket!
This highly impressive EP closes on ‘Gangsta’s Paradise’, yep that one! Acid Claw skank and skank until they can skank no more, so move all your furniture out of the way and cut a rug for this off the scale banger. Job done!
