NIGHT THIEVES – Interview

With full blooded support from Planet Rock, Powerplay, HRH, Total Rock, and ERB Magazine, UK heavy rock threesome, NIGHT THIEVES, are poised to stake a claim with their superb new EP, Spiral, out now. We spoke with the band to find out about their background and more:

What is the full band line-up, who sings and who plays which instrument?

Jess Moyle – Vocals

Paul Andrew – Guitar

Rick Hunter-Burns – Bass

How and when did the band form?

The band was formed in London after Jess and Rick’s previous band disbanded. Looking to start afresh with a new sound Paul auditioned and immediately stood out, bringing in a down tuned and melodic sound.

When and how did the band really start gelling and solidifying?

The band gelled straight away from Paul’s audition and immediately knew they were on to something. During this first session Paul looked across and asked Rick “can you down tune your bass?”. They must have been on the same wavelength already as Rick had bought a 5-string Dingwall bass a few days before and has been pivotal to Night Thieves sound ever since.

Who are your musical influences?

There are so many! Anything that has big riffs and a great sense of melody, bands like Royal Blood, Architects, Biffy Clyro, and Incubus. We also love some awesome acts in and around London at the moment like Hawxx, Marisa and the Moths, Nova Twins, to name a few.

Where did the name of the band come from?

After going through over 100 ideas Night Thieves came up after a few beers at the pub. It was inspired by the orange glow over the city at night and the lights that take away the night… nothing to do with actual thieving, we don’t run around at night with ‘swag’ bags over our shoulders!

In your opinion, how is your band different from all the other bands out there?

We have a unique mix of heavy riffs and soaring choruses with some pop elements that bring a huge energy to every song. Combined with Jess’ vocal and writing style you get the recognisable Night Thieves sound.

If a deaf person were to ask you to describe the sound of your music, how would you describe it?

Like being pummelled by a boxer, then soothed in a massage chair on repeat
