Another treat for me to review this week, this time from Tennessee based Heavy-Metallers Straight Line Stitch, Transparency is the follow up to their self-titled EP release in 2014. Instantly I was captivated on my first listen to the truly beautiful intro track ‘Out of the Shadows’ even after a few spins this instrumental track remains my firm favourite; I just love how it really sets the theme for the EP, something a bit dark but really very beautiful. Up next we have ‘Dark Matter’ and a nice contrast kicking straight into the heavy, with the growls of Alexis Brown and further in her clean vocals are just as captivating; Alexis is the longest serving member having been part of Straight Line Stitch since 2003. Having gone through quite a number of line-up changes over the years and now with only 3 permanent members, however this release is a great showcase of just how strong they are. ‘Transparency’ shows a mix of melodic and heavier moments, but not just vocally; it’s complemented perfectly with the heavy and softer guitar work and even the instrumental moments.
Another highlight for me is closing track ‘Human Bondage’ a great bass orientated intro, it brings the EP to a great close with some killer break-down based riffs too. Overall I really enjoyed this EP, each track flowed together very seamlessly making it really immersive. A great release if you haven’t heard of Straight Line Stitch before and want to give them a shot, I suggest checking it out, as well as being a great addition to current fans. Hopefully this is a taste of things to come and we will get a full album soon! Really enjoyed it and hope I get to see them playing some tracks from this live soon!
