Summary:

If you like your music fast and full of energy by the likes of Marmozets, Bring Me The Horizon and Asking Alexandria then you really can’t go wrong with this, a well-deserved 4/5

bury the ghostsSertraline are a five piece alternative rock outfit from Stoke-on-Trent, UK. Led by the enchanting Leeds lass Lizzie on lead vocals, the band features four ex members; Tom, Josh, Mike & Hendo, of local band Blue Origin who had minor success with their debut album Somnium.
Aware that they, as a collective, wanted to create music that sounded fresh and evocative set about auditioning vocalists. Still not sure if they wanted Male or Female they left the door open to both sexes. Several auditions in and the sparkling personality that is Lizzie Parry, bounced in and stole the position from any likely candidates. Thus Sertraline was born.
September saw the band enter The Vale Studios for a solid ten days. The tracks were then passed to Producer Lee Batuik (Deaf Havana/While She Sleeps) for mixing & mastering and this is the result, a 6 track mini album called ‘Bury the Ghosts’.
A choppy bass run opens this opus up with the fast and furious’ Dead Set’, a track that certainly showcases what a pair of lungs Lizzie has; this track never lets up, moving through the songs passages at a frantic pace, the drums really sounding strong on this. There is a counter melody screamed near the end of this track by Josh that adds another dimension.
‘Not Enough’ follows on in the same vein, fast and furious, with a another strong vocal from Lizzie, sort of punky rock, with Alternative overtones, very catchy.

‘Mean To Me’ starts off a bit slower, but soon kicks up a gear, this is another track with a screaming backing vocal used to great effect and very similar overall sound wise to the previous two, so obviously this is the direction the band are heading? Or so you think until you hear the next track ‘Colours’.
‘Colours’ has a gentle acoustic introduction with a glorious vocal from Lizzie which leads into a great guitar solo running to the songs end, sounding like nothing on else on the E.P this is a brilliant ballad.
In fact it is one of the best ballads I have heard in a long time. Stunning.
‘Set The World Alight’ and ‘All Choked Up’ round this EP off in fine style with Josh’s gruff vocal style used to great effect as a counter melody on the final track
