Robert Jon & The Wreck-“Heartbreaks & Last Goodbyes”-Album Review-Planetmosh

I tend to lose track of albums from ‘Robert Jon & The Wreck’, as I’ve reviewed most of them as the Orange County, California based band have really hit the ground running with their stunning new release of “Heartbreaks & Last Goodbyes”, due for release on Friday,August 22nd via Joe Bonnamassa’s Journeyman records.

These songs are of the highest quality as ‘Sittin Pretty’ has a Hammond organ intro that segues into an unstoppable main riff, a gnarly lead vocal akin to Deep Purple in their prime as stop/start dynamics that hit hard and heavy for a full on freak out.

‘Ashes In The Snow’ has a laid back shuffle, tugging at the heart strings as an almost whispered vocal intro raises its head for a beautiful slide guitar driven power ballad par excellence.

‘Highway’ is a rifftastic turbocharger as the band lock in tight, leaving no stone unturned to appreciate the drive of this stellar rock and roller.

‘Old Man’ strangely opened up on a Bohemian Rhapsody like vibe, but turns into a different animal when it hits hard and heavy with personal lyrics that makes this soul drenched magnum opus more sinister.

‘Dark Angel’ is a full on tubthumper that batters your audio system into oblivion by its wrecking ball prowess, romping and stomping with verve and some serious guitar wizardry.

‘Long Gone’ is a fiery four freaky minutes that rule the dance floor as they strut their funky stuff, defying musical genres.

‘Better Of Me’ is all barroom boogie of prominent piano, a put up or shut up lead vocal and whatever they can squeeze into this sucker punch of a song, point proven by the bare knuckle fight choruses.

‘I Wanna Give’ is once more all huge powerchords that resonate through this seemingly song of love lost as this beautiful ballad ticks off all the boxes.

Heartbreak & Last Goodbye is a short but sweet ballad to melt the coldest heart, gaining power throughout the pleading choruses as Robert Jon Burrison wears his heart on his sleeve.

Final track ‘Keep Myself Clean’ show that the foundations are shaken, bringing the hammer down with aplomb, riddled with lovely earworms that add brief moments of respite around more pummeling power chords and the outro is a joy to behold!
