Sex, drugs, women, drinkin’, rock ‘n’ fuckin’ roll… that’s all that really matters to Nashville Pussy (well, let’s be honest, it’s all that really matters to any of us, isn’t it) – and it just about summarizes the content of the band’s latest album, and their best to date.
‘Up The Dosage’ is a rattlesnake shakin’ collection of 13 brawling, bruising, foot-stomping, hell raising rabble rousing Suvern rawk powerhouses, delivered via chunky riffs, meaty melodies and frontman Blaine Cartwright’s trademark tongue-in-cheek lyrics, all underpinned by one of the dirtiest bottom ends you’ll hear this side of the Mississippi.
Through classic fistwaving anthems such as opener ‘Everybody’s Fault But Mine’, the smashmouth ‘Spent’, the title track and the glorious ‘Pillbilly’, through the cheeky harmonics of ‘The South’s Too Fat To Rise Again’ to the ZZ Top meets The Cramps spunk of ‘Takin’ It Easy’ (featuring bassist Bonnie Buitrago on lead vocal duty), the Nugent-esque vitriol of ‘White And Loud’ and the country-blooze swagger of ‘Hooray For Cocaine, Hooray For Tennessee’, it’s an album that draws together a rich diversity of sounds, and in a way which the Pussies haven’t tried before, but in a beautifully homogenized and consistent way which helps the album rattle along like a tornado sweeping through the mid-West.
‘Up The Dosage’ is the perfect party album, so get the pit fired up (yes, we know it’s pissing down outside, but just get on with it!), crack open the beer and the moonshine and get them cowboy boots polished up nice, ‘cos, y’know, ‘Pussy’s Not A Dirty Word’…
