Maven – Interview

Brit alt-rockers MAVEN are riding high with the release of their current EP, Am I Awake?, out now. The UK tunesmiths have just revealed a brand new video for the track, Stronger Than You https://youtu.be/kOpMU2X7qJs . With all of this going on, we had a chat with the guys to find out more:

What is the full band line-up, who sings and who plays which instrument?

Dan Nash (Vocals)

Joe Marshall (Guitar/Vocals)

Rob Barlow (Guitar/Vocals)

Sam Tindal (Bass/Vocals)

Josh Stillwell (Drums)

How and when did the band form? Tell us anything interesting about your hometown.

The band was formed by Joe and Dan in their hometown of Sidcup (birthplace of John Paul Jones) back in 2013. Having been through a few line up changes over the years, the band now have what they feel is the strongest lineup of musicians to date.

When and how did the band really start gelling and solidifying?

With the recent addition of former Chasing Cadence guitarist Rob Barlow, the band have a new found determination and drive to succeed. Rob has brung fresh ideas both with our songwriting and stage show, so we look forward to what’s to come.

Who are your musical influences?

I (Dan) have grown up listening to a lot of soul and RnB as well as hard rock, so I take big influences from Luther Vandross, Craig David and Myles Kennedy of Alter Bridge. Rob is mainly influenced by all aspects of rock from Metallica and Architects to Queen and Deaf Havana. Joe is a huge Thrice fan and grew up with punk and metal influences, it’s quite plain to see with his style of playing. Sam is the biggest queen fan I know, he knows everything about that band, and he also has a lot of time for the beach boys and Metallica. Josh’s roots sit with Progressive metal and classic rock. His father being a big influence on these fronts.

If a deaf person were to ask you to describe the sound of your music, how would you describe it? A sonic leopard.
