Häxan is the second Welsh artist I’ve reviewed in two days, highlighting the wealth of talent there. Their debut album White Noise is an absolute belter from this female trio!
The Cardiff based band certainly kick out the jams with this nine-song noisemonger, kicking off literally with ‘Damned If You Do‘. It’s a race to the finish line snare driven snarler. Riffs churn and grind over seismic bass guitar lines as sugar-sweet vocals add lashings of melody.
Huge booming grooves tested the metal mettle of my headphones from hammer blow drumming to the refrain of “Killing time before time kills me”.
Latest single ‘Nine Lives’ barrels along on a Motörhead like bluster. Rhythms hit hard and heavy but those vocal melodies are never too far away. A tasty lead guitar solo midway ups the ante.
Wrecking ball power riffs give a doom metal like vibe throughout ‘Grave Digger’ as they crash and crunch with no compromise.
‘Louder Than Words‘ is a power-pop thrash out but with enough power to fire up the National Grid for a year!
‘Black Sheep’ is my album highlight! Riffs resonate with sonics like early Entombed over a menacing lead vocal.
‘Crash And Burn’ is all balls out barroom boogie of the highest beer-swilling order.
Get your air guitars out and move the furniture back to be ready for the hairy headbanger ‘Skeletons‘. A foot to the floor delivery does not go down the gears at all for a mind-blowing aural assault.
Devastating dynamics hammer home ‘Living Dead’, the last song on this very impressive debut album. It highlights the potency of the band as it chugs along with an abrasive edge to it.
