Harlan Flo formed in Chicago in 2007, and play blues rock – with a fairly strong emphasis on the blues element. The members of the band have a diverse range of musical backgrounds and influences including blues, gospel, rock and more.
The vocals are very light and smooth and suit the music very well. The music is great too with the guitar work in particular being very strong.
Brief comments on a few of the songs.
The album opens with “Land of the guardians” which has quite a strong rock feel despite the slow pace of the song, and theres also a strong blues feel here too. A very good start to the album
“Bittersweet” is a relatively fast up-tempo song with a catchy tune. The upbeat feel of the music contrasts with the bittersweet subject of the lyrics, but this combination works well.
“Shoot the stars” features some lovely slide guitar work which really controls the feel of the song.
A very good laid back blues-rock album – well worth a listen.
