Summary:

The album is packed with potential hits and choruses that you will keep running through your head for days afterwards.

grand design‘Thrill of the Night’, is the third album from Swedish Hard Rockers Grand Design.
The album takes up where the 2011 opus ‘Idolizer’ left off, again led from the front by vocalist Pelle Saether and the guitars of Dennis Vestman, they are joined by Janne Stark on lead guitar, Mats Vassfjord on bass and Magnus Ulfstedt on drums.
The album kicks off with ‘U Got Me Good’ and does not disappoint, the powerhouse rhythms, soaring guitars are all there in abundance, Grand Design are back.
‘ Rawk N Roll Heart Attack’, ‘The Rush Is Gone’, and ‘10 Outta 10’ follow in a blaze of 80’s inspired rock, so far this really is a great album, any hard rock/aor album is always judged by the strength of its ballads, and this one is no exception. ‘When The Greatest Love Of All Kick In’ is up there with the greatest.
Think Shy with a twist of Swedish songwriting and you get the picture.
Things are back to hard rock normality with the guitar soaked ‘Rip Iddup’, before a bit of a modern rocker ‘Get Up ‘n’ Love Someone’ breaks cover. The 80’s vibe is very much on show with ‘You’re The Only One’, and then we’re back to the present day majesty ‘Whose Gonna Rawk You Tonite’.
Grand Design have on this occasion, chosen to save the best till last, ‘Thrill Of The Nite’, is a massive track, everything a hard melodic song should be, easily the best song on the album.

Once again produced by singer Pelle Saether and now featuring full-time guitarist Janne Stark, who had originally guested on the debut, “Thrill Of The Night” is Grand Design at their very best. In fact, this album definitely takes the band to a whole new level, musically, song-wise and also in regards to production. The album is packed with potential hits and choruses that you will keep running through your head for days afterwards. From the opening chords of “U Got Me Good” and the anthem “Rawk ‘N Roll Heart Attack”, right up to up-tempo rocker “10 Outta 10” and the big, epic ballad “When The Greatest Love Of All Kicks In”, this band has really hit the button.
