Recorded back way in 2020 during lockdown, The Night Owl And The Lark EP from Elles Bailey will finally see the light of day on February 23rd 2024. It seems rather surreal reviewing this beautiful piece of work, whilst looking at torrential rain, but these five sunshine enducing songs save the day from the Bristol based vocalist.
‘Lean On My Love’ is a bitter sweet number of sparse keys that echoed through my headphones, as Elles eases in gracefully for a luscious performance throughout this beatific ballad, gaining strength as her backing vocalist adds soul touches.
‘Nothing Without You’, is a finger clicking, guitar picking song of laid back rock and roll raunch as Elles hits her stride early, heading towards poignant choruses. Once again, gorgeous backing vocals enchant.
‘Mumma And Me’ is a very personal song, the first single written for the EP, and also her mother during lockdown. It ambles along at a snails pace, so as to let this song wash over you like a gentle breeze.
‘Jordan’, strangely starts like ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’. This song is beauty personified, akin to having a hug from an old friend, such is its power to enthrall with stratospheric height nuances.
This stunning EP closes on ‘Bring It On’, my personal highlight, as Elles makes you hang on to every word, such is the songs frailty. Backing vocals come and go, depending on how much this magnum opus needs to make it shine.
