Brave Rival-5to4-EP Review-Planetmosh

A rejuvenated Brave Rival, come out of the ring, taking on all comers with their self released, five brand new set of songs that make up their EP 5 to 4, due for release on October 17th, and the wait has been well worth it!

It opens up with ‘Let Me Rock N Roll’, living up to its name, roaring and raging over huge riffs, slamming drum prowess onslaughts, all pinned down by a histrionic lead vocal.

‘Poison’ has a Godzilla stomped intro that lumbers along on more ear rattling riffing and seismic drum pounds. It chugs along on a lead vocal of stratospheric height screams, along with air guitar inducing forays.

‘Try Again’ has a gentle acoustic intro and sublime lead vocal until all hell breaks loose to turn your headphones into dust throughout this eight minute long magnum opus of hard rock splendour and lengthy guitar heavy outro.

‘Control’ barely has time to catch a breath as they rush headlong into this vitriol fuelled rager that gallops along for three tumultuous minutes, highlighting the heartache of an overbearing partner, that sees the relationship falling apart at the seams.

The EP closes far too soon as Wild Child (thankfully not the WASP version), is a rollicking rocker that doesn’t let go until this wild child has run out of steam.

Brave Rival are Lindsey Bonnick (lead vocals), Donna Peters (drums, percussion, acoustic guitar, vocals), Ed ‘the Shred’ Clarke (guitars, vocals), and Billy ‘Danger’ Dedman (bass guitar, vocals).

Fresh from winning “Blues Band of the Year” at the 2025 UK Blues Awards, Brave Rival are proud to announce a brand-new EP, due for release in Autumn 2025. The as-yet-untitled EP will mark the band’s first release as a four-piece, signalling an exciting new chapter in their evolution. The EP, featuring brand new songs written by the band’s current line-up, will be produced by Tarrant Shepherd and recorded at Global Fire Creative’s studio in Fareham. Sessions will be both recorded and filmed, giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the band’s bold new material.

“Towards the end of last year, when we made the decision to continue as a four, we immediately knew we wanted to get new music out that would reflect our new line up but also our determination and creativity as a band. We began working on songs straight away and cannot wait to start sharing them with the world,” says Billy

“When we received the news that Chloe would be leaving the band that was of course devastating for us all. I remember the 4 of us having a meeting to decide what we should do. Initially, the question was, should we continue? And it was instantly apparent to us that we wanted to keep going, that we had more to give,” recalls Lindsey

Drummer Donna Peters adds, “Things have moved really quickly but with that pace has come fresh ideas and an abundance of creativity. Really feels like we are blossoming into this harder edged but still beautiful version of Brave Rival.” “Whilst we spent the start of this year looking at our options for the line up and if we should appoint a new 2nd singer, we had gig commitments to fulfil,” explains guitarist Ed ‘the Shred’. “So, we decided to tackle them head on as a four. And what we found was kinda liberating. The vibe didn’t change as much as you might expect. 80% of the band is now 100% of the band so the energy is still as strong and focused as ever.”

A launch gig for the EP is set to take place at the legendary 100 Club in London on 15th October 2025, followed by a full UK tour.
