Carnival Club – interview

Newcomers CARNIVAL CLUB plan to make waves across the UK this Spring. The youthful rock ‘n’ rockers have just signed to new imprint Demolition Diner Records and the band will release their new mini-album ‘Magdalena Cape’ on 12th May – we had a chat with the guys about their history and more:

What is the full band line-up?

Eddie Moxon – Guitar

Joe Lodge – Drums

George Peel – Bass

Kai Roberts – Vocals

How and when did the band form?

We’re not all mancunians, in fact Kai’s the only man in the group. I’m (Eddie) from Hull, George is a Burnley boy and Joe is from Stockton-on-Tees. We all go to Uni here, but started from Kai and Joe in a music project around March last year that wasn’t quite complete and they weren’t 100% on the music they made and their old guitarist left. Me and George already knew Joe from a past music project at Uni and then it was like old times but now with Kai up front. It all came together in a bar, like most things do. But I’m sure Kai could run his mouth for hours about how great he thinks Manchester is.

What are your musical influences?

We all cross many many many musical borders, almost to the point where we question how we get in a band together!! But we believe it’s nothing but our strong point. But we were all grown up on the big old Rock n Roll bands like The Rolling Stones, Guns n Roses, so we often stray off towards the same tones and feel for a performance they would.

In your opinion, how is your band different from all the other bands out there?

I say we’re different in the fact that were not following the big band pop vibe that’s so present in the industry, we’re not here to add to the indie landfill. As much as we may enjoy some of those bands, Its not our roots! We have a big Rock n Roll sound that I think the kids need.

Do you have a tour on the horizon?

We have dates in different cities that you can find on our social media but its a difficult one because we’re not big enough to headline a tour, but we’re all hoping we create enough hype of the EP that we get some weight behind us. We have the songs, the jackets and the time so hit us up! We can only hope people start paying attention.
