Wildest Dream at the Cornmill, Chilwell.

Wildest Dream – formerly known as ‘Wrathchild…be thy name‘, are a local rock duo from the East midlands made up of Edd Smith and Terry Crofts. Mostly performing as a rock tribute band, they have though written and sung their own songs along side the many greats they enact.

Bank holiday Monday afternoon at the Cornmill was transformed for a few hours into a rockin venue. A crowd of just under two hundred came to see, sing and dance with the guy’s in the warm sunshine at the back lot of the pub. After starting their first set with some old favorites ‘It’s My Life‘ by Bon Jovi, Rainbow’s ‘Since You,ve Been Gone‘, plus a few others. They then sang for us one of their own songs ‘ Hero’s Never Die’ dedicating it to all the service personnel, a very poignant song and played with only an acoustic guitar. The crowd went quite while we heard this lovely ballad drifting out across the pubs garden. Another song  ‘Higher‘ is also a good Wildest Dream track, and was sung with a passion for the music.

Some really hot guitar solo’s by Terry take these guy’s to a higher level than the normal run of the mill tribute bands. ‘Time For Rocking‘ has a mix and range of sounds from the likes of Whitesnake, Gary Moore, Journey and Thin Lizzy, with the excellent dual guitar riff’s from Edd and Terry, these lad’s can really rock a crowd and it’s well worth taking the chance to see them live.
Edd is a true showman, he seems to love coming off stage to sing among the crowds with the third member of the group grasped firmly in his right hand ( a large wooden staff with a skulls head and glowing eyes ). With a powerful voice and an amazing vocal range Edd blasts out the songs with bags of energy and enthusiasm. Terry also takes over as lead singer on several tracks and he again has a unique style, slightly deeper and throaty he can match any rock singer i,ve heard so far.

After a short break, the guy’s were back on stage for the second set of the day. Again we were treated to some old classics from Rock and Roll history. They again sang some of their own songs. ‘Sinderella’ got the crowd joining in shouting so loud it almost stopped the near by traffic. Edd’s unique style of singing really marks this song out as one of their own. Toward the end of one track the guys came together and started to play each others guitars while still holding their own! A true bit of rock n roll showmanship, I,ve only ever seen this done on the internet. I spoke to Edd and Terry after their gig and they were very excited about their forth coming album release ( no date as yet ). When their new CD comes out I,m sure Planetmosh will be reviewing it. As tribute bands go, these two chaps have it pinned down. But it’s even better to see that along side this they are writing their own songs too and performing them to a high standard.
