Summary:

Five power packed songs with dual riffage and some growly vocals blended well with a more melodic vocal style. utoXator should appeal to fans of bands like Four Year Strong, Bowling For Soup, You Me at Six and fellow Yorkshiremen Glamour of the Kill.

Formed in Whitby in 2003 and now based in Leeds utoXator release their second E.P. ‘Songs From The City …Tales of Our Sea‘ via Rock Paper Scissors records on 21st March 2015 with an official launch party at The Key Club, Leeds in association with Slam Dunk that day (details here), with dates across the UK to follow. They released their debut E.P. ‘Stop and Listen’ in 2005 and a AA-Side single ‘Paint On Walls’ in 2011 and have spent most of 2014 honing and recording the songs for the latest E.P.

The first track on ‘Songs From The City …Tales of Our Sea‘ is the energetic Rise and Shine a high octane song which will hook you from the opening drum beat. An E.P, packed full of fast high octane tracks with dual riffs and some growly vocals which blend well with a more melodic singing style. Five power packed songs which should appeal to fans of bands like Four Year Strong, Bowling For Soup, You Me at Six and fellow Yorkshiremen Glamour of the Kill.

A couple of other comparisons I picked up were a bit of a Can’t Stop by Red Hot Chilli Peppers flavour to Work in Progress the video, to which, has just been released and can be seen on YouTube below. Golden Opportunity was an interesting mix of AC/DC meets Fleetwood Mac with an added growl here and there! I’m thinking Rock or Bust meets Go Your Own Way listen to the two and try and imagine them blended together with some added gruffness!

The highlight track for me was the opener Rise and Shine. A good power packed EP which gets four Stars from PlanetMosh. Five fast and furious power punk tracks, which will keep your interest and it will take up less than twenty minutes of your time. Go on give utoXator twenty minutes. If  you like the bands mentioned above you should like these.

About Louise Swift

I first went to a gig in 1981, Gillan at Leeds University. I've been a regular gig goer ever since. I haven't kept count of how many gigs I've been to over the intervening years, but it's a lot! My favourite bands are AC/DC then, in no particular order, Anti-Nowhere League, Slaughter and the Dogs, Towers of London and Dirt Box Disco. I tend to like Glam/Punk and rude offensive lyrics, not sure what that says about me but as Animal would say 'So What!' The question was recently put to me - did I write for any online publications? My reply - No, but I'd like to! Planetmosh was suggested and I found myself offering to review Aces High Festival. Easy peasy I thought! Well not quite, if a jobs worth doing it's worth doing well! I had sixteen bands to research. I found I actually enjoyed that and it kept me too busy to be making lunatic comments on Facebook! ;) Then I felt a bit inadequately qualified. I mean, who am I to comment on others, when my musical expertise extends to being able to play a mean Greensleeves on the recorder and a passable Annie's song on the flute! Haven't picked up either instrument for years! What I do have, however, is over 30 years of experience as a gig goer, so I can comment on what I like and what I don't! It's only my opinion and, if I don't like a band it doesn't mean they are bad, just not to my own liking. I admire anyone who has the guts to get up on that stage and have a go!
