Twitch’s Rats, from Nantwich, Cheshire scurry along, foraging for a new single, resulting in ‘On Their Own’, released on September 14th, 2024. It follows their debut single ‘Shot Down’, earlier on in the year. The five piece rock/metal noisemongers, formed in the summer of 2022, have matured since their debut gig a year later. More gigs have resulted in them ditching some of their covers in favour of original material, and what I’ve heard so far is very impressive, point proven by their sophomore single.
A four track EP, Nobody Left has just been recorded to coincide with their first headline gig, incorporating it with the EP, to launch it on Saturday, September 21st at Nantwich Football Club, Optimum Pay Stadium, CW5 585, supported by Catalyst & Slated. Tickets are £5.00 or £7.00 on the door, 7pm start time.
To my old ears, ‘On Their Own’ is a frantic four minutes of an amalgam of grunge and doom metal to capture the bleakness. A strange pairing but it works! An eerie, skin shivering lead vocal rants and rages with a lung shredding delivery to hammer the song home. Riffs serrate with a jagged edge, grinding harder throughout the caustic choruses and a claustrophobic, haunting, stripped back midsection, closing on a full on guitar laden outro. Job done!
