Light among shadows – Welcome…back

light among shadows - welcome backLight among shadows are a symphonic metal band from the Southern part of Spain, although their singer, Tatjana Klee is German.  The band was formed in 2010 and released their debut EP, “At the gates of dawn” in March 2011.  The EP was well received and the band did a tour of Spain playing 16 dates.  After that they started work on writing and recording their debut album, and in September 2012, “Welcome…Back” was released.

Brief comments on a few tracks..

The album kicks off with title track ‘Welcome…back’.  Plenty of guitar and a nice brisk pace give the music a nice heavy feel.  The vocals are very good – they’re not operatic style like say Tarja Turunen, nor are they the more typical rock vocals, but instead they fit somewhere in between.

‘Homecoming’ and ‘Mirage’ aren’t songs as such, but feels more like intro’s.  I’m surprised one of them wasn’t used at the start of the album, but they are both used to break up the album and to add a touch of contrast.  Both are very good tracks for the purpose.

‘Of wonder and horror’ is one of the heaviest tracks on the album and is definitely metal, whereas some of the other tracks are more hard rock than metal.

It’s a very strong album – great vocals and great music.  Well worth a listen for fans of female fronted metal.

“Welcome…Back” is out now.
