If you feel like you’re missing some new/old groove thrash metal, I have something to recommend for you. With their very first full-length album ‘Origin’, four-piece Australian band Harlott confidently step up to the plate and introduce themselves to the metal scene. Formed not so long ago, in 2006, they’ve released two official EPs prior to this that have allowed them to grow and produce a fine full length debut.

‘Origin’ consists of twelve groovy, aggressive and high speed thrash metal tracks . It’s quite long for the first album, but it flows very fast while listening to it – certainly not an album that lends you to clockwatching by any means! ‘Origin’ is remarkable quality, especially the vocals. Vocalist Andrew Hudson changes from melodic to fast shouting, expanding it with backing vocals and chorus, making the songs catchy and easy to remember.

The first track and also the title track is one of the strongest on the album. It stands out with catchy rhythm and chorus and is almost everything that a good thrash metal piece would need in almost four minutes. The main topics for this band seems to be war, violence, religion and apocalyptic themes, all of which can be easily recognized in all of the songs in ‘Origin’. There is nothing innovative about this band or this album, but it is indeed an enjoyable album of quality thrash metal both for the moshpit or just listening at home. If you like Havok, Exodus or similar bands you will certainly enjoy ‘Origin’ as well.

Harlott’s ‘Origin’ sounds promising and will surely be enjoyed by groovy thrash metal lovers. It might be a first great step upward for the band and definitely an album for thrash metal lovers to have.
