Chasing Dragons – Take Flight For a Firefight CD review

Leeds based Chasing Dragons are a fresh faced, hard rock band; who are pushing the boundaries with their debut EP entitled Take Flight For a Firefight. Their mind-blowing mix of Paramore esque vocal lines and fat ass, punchy metal riffs is really something to behold – not only serving the listener up a plate full of hard rock anthems to sink their teeth into, but presenting them with nine songs that are actually about real life scenarios, taking into account the recent riots across the UK and various topics such as love and inner reflection. Chasing Dragons have hit the ground running to say this is their debut EP and with not one dull moment on the album, Take Flight For a Firefight will have you in awe by just how brilliant this Leeds based five piece is.

To say this is an EP, there are a lot of tracks on Take Flight For a Firefight – which isn’t a bad thing at all. It’s such a diverse album and this is what makes this album so special. From fist pumping, in your face tracks such as ‘Spawn of the Succubus’ and ‘Into the Pit’ to the more melodic, power ballad like lilts in the form of ‘Mirrors Edge’ and ‘Seeds of Tomorrow’, Chasing Dragons show off radiate so much musical flare and talent, showing the world that they are not only great musicians, but also brilliant song writers, composing some of the most catchy songs of 2012 thus far!

The bands cover of ‘Black Velvet’ by Allanah Myles and their acoustic version of the bands first single ‘Spawn of the Succubus’ really adds a sleaze rock swagger to this EP, taking a more bluesy tone to the guitar lines which are played so masterfully by guitarists Zebs and Mitch. It’s a brilliant way to add diversity and difference to the record, proving that Chasing Dragons are not your average rock band, prepared to think outside the box when performing these kick ass songs.

Chasing Dragons singer who is known as “Tank” really is an astounding front woman. She has so much attitude, rasping in her vocal lines; being both menacing and emotionally powerful at the same time. More like a punk singer than a rock vocalist, “Tank” can master the all ends of the spectrum, mastering the high notes and the low notes, the shouting and the singing. She has such a distinct voice, which has definitely mapped her out to be one of the best up and coming female vocalists in the rock industry.

£5….. That’s all this musical masterpiece costs. Nine tracks, jammed full of pounding guitar riffs, powerful vocal lines and some of the catchiest choruses in female fronted rock….. Screw the likes of Paramore, Halestorm and Flyleaf. Chasing Dragons are the future of this amazing genre, and they are entering the scene with full force! [9/10]

About Del Preston

So there I am, in Sri Lanka, formerly Ceylon, at about 3 o'clock in the morning, looking for one thousand brown M&Ms to fill a brandy glass, or Ozzy wouldn't go on stage that night. So, Jeff Beck pops his head 'round the door, and mentions there's a little sweet shop on the edge of town. So - we go. And - it's closed. So there's me and Keith Moon and David Crosby, breaking into that little sweet shop, eh. Well, instead of a guard dog, they've got this bloody great big Bengal tiger. I managed to take out the tiger with a can of mace, but the shop owner and his son, that's a different story altogether. I had to beat them to death with their own shoes. Nasty business really. But sure enough, I got the M&Ms and Ozzy went on stage and did a great show.
